Franz Josef – Wanaka – Queenstown (Rāhina, Āperira 2nd 2012)

It was only 4 days before we went back to Indonesia, and i just didn’t wanna think about going back – back then.

Next Stop: Wanaka. Another Perfect day!

We didn’t actually plan to stay and ‘enjoy’ wanaka. We just transit there and continue to Queenstown. From Franz Josef to Wanaka took 6,5 hours. It was another great trip, the bus made stops in several great places and beautiful view points.

First stop is in Paringa, Salmon Farm Tearoom, where we entered this humble cafe with the green prairie on the back as a background and salmon farm beside it. Inside the cafe was a warm homey cafeteria.

We made our next stop before lunch around Haast Township at this lookout point named Knight’s Lookout Point. It was a high place in the edge of a cliff where can see such a beautiful rocks from a crescent-like shape emerge from the sea.

We then had lunch in Makarora Country Cafe, a modern village-country style cafe. If you look around you can find this steep hills around you with lots of cattle. The cafe also warm and homey. How i love that cafe.

It was a smooth easy ride before we passed Lake Hawea Dam – such a great travel then, the road was winding around the hill. On the left side, all block by the rock, but on the right, it was a beautiful, perfectly spread blue diamond as the road went curvy. The sun was perfectly shine the lake and the view was so mesmerizing. We also stopped in this mirror lake, which offers such an amazing view like i had never seen before. The Lake was mirroring the hills perfectly ! That was another perfect moving day.

My heart just kept pounding from Hawea through Wanaka, and even gasping when we arrived at Wanaka. We stopped at the Wanaka i-site – just next to lake and all i see was gorgeous scenery. And there i was – my jaw dropped instantly. It felt surreal.

It was autumn and surround the lake you can see these beautiful, gallant trees march beautifully with its autumn color. The wind breeze friendly and the atmosphere just hug you like you’re belong to that place, so embracing and surreal. It was unspeakably amazing. Hope my pictures can bring you there.

We were there for only 2 hours before our bus took us to Queenstown, about 1,5 hours away from Wanaka. Now i know where all those beautiful wallpapers on my desktop and calendars were taken, Heavenly placed named Wanaka. It exists, and i was there…

The Best

The Best Dream-Come-True Under Lake Wanaka’s Autumn Spell

I was so insisted when we planned this trip for us to make a quick stop at Wanaka before heading to Queenstown. It’s because i googled ‘autumn in wanaka’ and jaw-dropping pictures fulling the screen.

Biggest disappointment Not staying overnight at Wanaka

Best Mirror Lake Lake Hawea

During the trip i saw several lake named “Mirror Lake”, but the one that we saw in Lake Hawea was the boldest, its crystal clear perfectly mirror everything on top of it. Amazing!
